Diagram 776 (the Another Train [Tram] Coming lamp) is still approved by the TSRGD (Traffic Signs Manual).
Diagram 776 is used at locally-monitored automatic open crossings on double-track lines,
where two trains can arrive in quick succession. The sign should be sited on the left hand side of the road.
The ORR Level Crossing guide for managers, designers and operators states for AOLCs:
The road traffic light signals should cease to show and the audible warning should stop immediately, unless another approaching train is so close that a minimum of 10 seconds road open time cannot be achieved. In this situation the intermittent red lights should continue to flash. The audible warning should change in character after the first of the trains arrives at the crossing. The change in character should be timed so as to be detectable by pedestrians at the crossing. Consider whether other means of warning such as flashing signs showing the words ‘Another train coming’ might also be required.
Thus the Another Train Coming lamp is still an approved piece of equipment but for AOLCs only. All other crossings must continue to display red wig wags and have a noticeable change in the audible alarm tone instead.
