Level crossing collision Melton Suffolk

1002 Greater Anglia lpswich - Lowestoft has hit a car on Bloss user worked level crossing Melton on East Suffolk Line this morning. No injures to crew or pax, car driver receiving treatment.

A man has been airlifted to hospital after reports that a car was struck by a train at a level crossing in Suffolk.

British Transport Police (BTP) and the East of England Ambulance Service (EEAST) were called to the Bloss level crossing at Melton shortly after 10.30am today.

A man, believed to be the driver of the vehicle, was injured and was airlifted to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge for treatment. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening at this stage.

There were no other reported injuries on board the train, according to the BTP....

The crossing by the station is an Automatic Half Barrier crossing and to make it fully barriered would mean it either having Crossing Attendants present or introducing CCTV control, both extremely expensive. There are thousands of AHB's on equally busy A roads throughout the country that are used perfectly and safely every day; this one is no different.

And as yet it hasn't been confirmed that this was the actual crossing involved. The opening post says it was a User Worked Crossing, and the photo in the Twitter feed does not look anything like the station crossing, and more like the one at Brick Kiln Lane a little to the north-east of there.

The collision was definitely at Bloss user worked crossing on the Ipswich side of Melton station.

I can see 2 nearby, into Larkham's Boatyard and at Dock Lane, and there seem to be several more towards Woodbridge.
From experience UWC's are a pain!!

and lo GA who are embroiled in guard dispute make no mention of the excellent actions shown on board by guard - only talking about driver, leaving it to social media praise from passengers !! If a back office replacement was working this train they would have shouted it from rooftops after the Ipswich fiasco of passengers jumping out after wrong side door release last week.

Looking at a picture in the news story linked to in post #2 it looks to me as if the coupler might have been damaged, can't be sure though
