Hi I'm new to the forum,

I'm coming to the end of my course which will give me my PTS, TIC and Sentinel Card in around 6 weeks time. Not sure in which field I would like to work just yet as I'm steering towards many so I think it would be best to start off on a shovel doing ballast profiling and donkey work.

Does anyone have any ideas on how best to get into the rail industry, possible employers, sub contractors etc?

My idea was to join Ganymede agency who deal with Network Rail then see how it goes.

Any information, advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'd ring round all the agenceys that are network rail approved. That'll be the best way to get your foot in the door.

You may want to try a company called Mcginleys they seem to have lot of people working through them on the railway.

Not to be a grinch on the matter and don’t get me wrong you can get a good career out of the railway!
Just expect only weekend work to start with unless your very lucky and expect lies and false promises from ALL agencies when you first start out.
Don’t get put off by this, keep hard at it and sign up for who every gives you work then start to pick and choose when you start getting the experience.
Also don’t rush to get all the courses after only being on track 1 week but do decide early on which road you want to take because there are many.
