Lettering in Route indicators

I'll have to check that about the Metro at Sunderland, never normally look. I'm not even sure if the Metros ever use a different platform when going towards South Hylton, unless the ones that termiante at Sunderland in the early morning/late evening use the northbound platform. Would assume that they'd go into the siding and then reverse.

The early morning Metros that turn at Sunderland station arrive straight into the northbound platform using the crossover, and the driver changes ends in the platform, with boarding and alighting being allowed throughout the process. I don't know what the late night terminating ones do before running back to South Gosforth, as I always get off the inbound run at Seaburn or Stadium of Light.

I have got one on a Saturday night that sat in the southbound platforms before pulling away. An East Coast HST went through Northbound, and the service towards South Hyltonwas suspended so I guess it wasn't the norm.

My memory of the old signalling at Newcastle is when a Deltic approached from Edinburgh at night approaching (old) Platform 10 the Theatre Indicator on the signal next to the Castle used to light up because they had orange back indicators - I think it showed "S"?
Also when you you were on a Sunderland train in Platform 7 there were about 3 Searchlight signals and each one would slowly cycle through Red/Yellow/Green then the final one would show "S" and you knew you were off home!
