No it isn't: "50050 LOOKS LIKE it is rotting away at yeovil" would be an opinion, albeit a misguided one, whilst saying that 50050 actually IS rotting away is stating something as fact when quite clearly it is not true, as many hours of hard work and determination are being spent on the loco. A loco that is operational and is being further restored is NOT rotting away!

45015 could be described as rotting away (thats if its not been cut up already) certainly not a description that could be used for 50050!

50021 is still awaiting a repair to its ETH/Aux gen set, but it is hoped this will be done either this year or next, with the loco re-commissioned 6-12 months after that.
50033 is in the process of being transferred into the custody of Tyseley Railway Museum. The power unit has been unsiezed, the loco has been run up several times and is in the process of being re-commissioned.
The bodywork on 50050 was deliberately left until the loco was made operational again. It was on display and working at the Yeovil 150 event last weekend. It requires a repair to the rad fan and a motor blower. It is intended the bodywork will be addressed later this year.
How do I know all this? I live in Tyseley and know some of the Museum staff, and inbetween rewiring 50030 at Matlock, I am currently helping out on Fearless.

Just out of interest is there anyone on here that has had the opportunity to look round 50026? I was lucky enough to have a quick tour round the inside of the loco at the Eastleigh 100 show........ it was absolutely immaculate in the engine room, it looked fantastic, it will almost be a shame to see it running again knowing that it'll be getting dirty in there!

Richard said he had recieved your donation & is grateful to you. Yes the gen damage to 21 was when it was used to heat coaching stock at BoNess I think. Its still awaiting repair at the moment. The 50021 Loco Association is still responsible for it, but they have no website.I do know what the plans are for Glorious, but at the moment I am sworn to secrecy, but I can say that in the short term it is hoped to have it ready for the East Lancs event in 2012 where they hope to reunite the five railtour machines. We hope 50050 will be fit for that event too.
I was part of an RRRG team that looked around 26 when it was at Bicester & it did indeed look immaculate inside. 50030 will look just as good after we take the power unit out later this year/early next year.

Ok cheers Andy, ive never been to the East Lancs as its a bit of a trek from where i am but seeing the 5 railtour machines might just mean i have to make the trip, i assume the 5 will be 007, 008, 015, 033 & D400?

As far as I know that's the plan. 33 wont be in Network livery, it will be in Large Logo, but I believe it is planned to repaint 50 as D400. If you do make it, feel free to look me up, I'm sure to be on either 33 or 50.

I was in attendance at the SVR on saturday for there "Peep behind the scenes" event, at which 50035 - Ark Royal in LoadHaul livery was hauling Trains between Kiddi and Bewdley, while 50031 - Hood in BR blue livery was on display at Bewdley station. They were the the first class 50's I have seen. I think the loadhaul livery is attractive, but you cant beat BR liverys.

I spent the day behind 035 myself, I dont mind the livery on the 50 but 50031 with a fading Large Logo livery is top tastic!

Toadhaul, I mean Loadhaul, is an appalling livery, whoever thought orange and yellow go together wants shooting! And on a 50? Oh dear. Give me Large Logo anyday.

Never minded the livery when applied to 37s, 56s and 60s but have to agree 100% about Ark Royal, it looks awful. In fact I disagree with it that much I refuse to phot or ride behind the loco until it is repainted in to a more appropriate livery!
However, it has got the publicity that the owner obviously wanted when he painted that colour so good luck to him!

lol, yeah i thought exactly the same Dreadnought, then i went to the Swanage diesel gala and guess which loco i ended up having most of ?????? Yep you guessed it 50135!

I planned my trips with precision at Swanage to make sure I didn't even have it on the back of any services I travelled on as well
I see it is supposed to be off to Nene Valley for their October gala, so I'm off to the Gloucs-Warks gala instead that weekend now!

They certainly got their mileage out of it that weekend..my photos of the event had far more orange in them than I planned. :roll:
Oh well. At least seeing Fearless again at Yeovil 150 made up for it!

How often is Fearless fired up or worked on down at Yeovil Andy, or available for viewing?
Are there people there at the weekends? I'd like to get down there and see it but it would be a weekend as thats the only spare time i get, but again it would probably be a last minute decision to go, will probably drag my uncle along, hes an ex Salisbury driver and has driven it more times than he can recall, i expect he would'nt mind having a nose round it.

Not that often sadly, it depends when Richard can make it down there, he & I live in the Midlands, so its a bit of a trek. We are hoping to have a weekend operating to promote the release of the book Richard has co-written about Fearless sometime in the next couple months, I can let you know when we fix the dates if you like. If you read Rail or Traction, you'll see an article about Fearless and the book.

Yesterday 50050 was re-registered on TOPS in the MBDL pool for private owners. A move to a Midlands heritage line is looking likely in the next month or so for bodywork repairs, so things are starting to happen...

Will that be a permanent move or just for the repairs? Yeovils always seemed an appropriate place to have a 50, especially D400.

For now its just for the bodywork repairs, but the stay is till 2012 when we hope to join the railtour locos at the East Lancs, after that we dont know yet. Yeovil was an appropriate place for Fearless, until they reneged on the deal to keep it under cover, which is why it has deteriorated so much.
On a slightly different tack, I got invited to go and have a look at an electrical problem on 50008 earlier today!

I was working on Fearless at the weekend, and it passed it's ultrasonic axle test, so sometime in the next few months it should be moving to a Midlands based heritage line for bodywork repairs.
Glorious had a power test a few weeks ago at Tyseley with 47773 dragging its brakes to simulate about 4-5 coaches, and it seemed to behave itself. We shall be doing another one soon, and keep your ears open a bit later this year (hopefully)

Hi Andy, i read somewhere that D400 is off to the Midland Railway Centre? If its true when is it going.... and will the bodywork repairs include a repaint? I got visions of D400 double heading a train or two with a certain green loco that is resident at the railway.
