Hi folks,

how do I add rain to a specific service on NWM? is it easy? i'm aware that making it NOT rain in tunnels will be quite difficult...

.beacon 21 needs to be added everywhere the intensity of rain changes, so you need to place them for every bridge and tunnel in the route. You need to do the same for the cab brightness commands and the fog commands. Fortunately, the way Tony has constructed the NWM routefiles means that you can copy from an existing one.

Have a look towards the end of one the rainy NWM route files. All the .fog, .brightness and .beacon 21 statements are placed together at the end of the file, which means that you can copy and paste the entire environment setup to change the conditions (apart from any change in the ambient lighting at the start of the route file). So if you want to make a route rainy, just edit in the environment section from an existing rainy route over the same section of track* (doesn't matter if it goes slightly further).

*This can't be done easily if either route includes a reversal as the distance markers in these routes don't always match up with the standard routes.

Drifting a little off-topic but still on the subject of beacon commands, I notice in the latest NWM beacons 23 and 24....new ones to me; anyone care to shed some light on these. Haven't had a chance to check yet but I'm guessing they are to do with the 156 guard activities.

Sorry mate, this is my first time understanding BVE code and as such I am completely lost, could you possibly explain it in 'layman's terms'

While changing the weather in NWM routes can be quite straightforward, you do need a basic understanding of how BVE route files are put together to follow what's going on. Try having a look at Dennis's tutorials on the subject (what's the link for these? I looked for them earlier and couldn't find them.)

Dennis, the 23 and 24 beacons are not new and have been in the routes for at least a couple of years. Beacon 23 tells the plugin which side the doors should open and beacon 24 defines the stopping zone so that the guard can give the appropriate 'draw forward' or 'set back' buzzer code if you stop wrongly. Both duplicate information that's already in the route file, but which BVE doesn't pass to the plugin.

Thanks - that's the link I had, but they seemed to be offline when I checked yesterday (they're back now).
