Leicester to Tamworth routing query

I am intending to make a journey tomorrow morning between Leicester and Tamworth, returning early afternoon. Would an off peak return between LEI and TAM be valid both via Nuneaton and via Derby?

Not valid via Derby.

Valid via Leicester - Nuneaton - Tamworth, or Leicester - Nuneaton - Water Orton - Tamworth only.

Try starting short from Leicester on a Nottingham - Tamworth not via Birmingham SVR (40p extra) instead

I'll probably do the journey on an East Midlands Day Ranger if there are no other tickets that will allow me to do both routes.

Sorry, Nottingham - Tamworth is valid

Nottingham - Loughborough - Leicester - Nuneaton - Tamworth

Nuneaton - Tamworth would be covered by the outbound ticket
and Tamworth - Derby - Nottingham by the return

but you couldn't then travel back to Leicester via Loughborough as you would have used this up on the outbound leg.....

East Mids Day Ranger is a rip-off.

Leicester - Burton-on-Trent will allow you to go both ways, breaking your journey at Tamworth in one direction and finishing one leg and immediately starting the next at Burton in the other direction. You do have to, though, time yourself for the hourly Turbo service when going via Derby as I don't think many Voyagers call at both Burton and Tamworth, if any.
