Leicester to Manchester with split tickets - validity

Hi all,

I hope you can help put my mind at ease with regard to how split tickets I'm thinking about would work. I'm due to travel to Manchester for work on Thursday 19th March, arriving around 11am and leaving after 4pm. Our petty cash can only authorise sums up to £50 so I've checked split ticket sites to see what options I have and the one that matches what I'm aiming for is:

Leicester to Loughborough
Anytime Day Return (SDR) £7.40

• Travel is allowed via any permitted route.
• Valid at any time - click for details

Loughborough to Blythe Bridge
Anytime Day Return (SDR) £16.10

• Travel is allowed via any permitted route.
• Valid at any time - click for details

Blythe Bridge to Manchester Piccadilly, Victoria, Oxford Road or Deansgate
Off-Peak Day Return (CDR) £16.20

• Travel is allowed via any permitted route.
• Restriction B3 applies - click for details

The restrictions are that the train must stop at Loughborough and Blythe Bridge and that the Off-Peak portion is only valid after 9am. The changes it gives me are at Stoke-on-Trent and Derby.

If I require some flexibility (i.e. it finishes early) then this combination is OK on any train as long as I stop at Loughborough and Blythe Bridge, is that correct? Also as I understand it I don't have to get off as long as the train stops there?

Apologies if these seem like obvious questions but I don't want to get caught out!

Hi. Basically yes, you can travel on earlier services as long as your train stops at these stations, subject to the usual permitted routes for your tickets. If you take the same route you will definitely be fine. Also no need to get off, you are explicitly allowed to combine tickets in this manner as per condition 14 of the national rail conditions of travel.
