Leicester-Rochdale

A splitting question for the clever ones.

Going to Spotland for the promotion six-pointer. The benchmark is Leicester-Bingham CDR (a tad cheaper than Leicester-Nottingham) @ £5.70 Y-P, plus Nottingham-Rochdale CDR @ £12.10, totalling £17.80.

I kinda wanna utilise the £6.60 LM offer and can travel via Nuneaton, as my bus pass covers the journey to Nuneaton. Can anyone think of a way to split along that route for less?

Finally Avantix gives a METROLINK fare Stockport-Rochdale CDR @ £3.40. I can't seem to remember that the tram goes as far as Stockport, or Rochdale? This fare does not come up on East Coast website

The route Metrolink fares within Greater Manchester allow you to use the trams to transfer between Victoria, Piccadilly and Deansgate. Travel in and out of central Manchester is by train.
I believe the London Midland deal will get you to Crewe or Stoke. So you could do:
Nuneaton-Stoke saver £6.60 (LM only)
Stoke-Stockport cheap day return £5.20 (Virgin only)
Stockport-Rochdale cheap day return £2.20
Total £14

or

Nuneaton-Stoke saver £6.60 (LM only)
Crewe-Stockport cheap day return £5.20 (Virgin only)
Stockport-Rochdale cheap day return £2.20

The CDR from Nottingham to Rochdale at £18.30 (without railcard) is a very useful fare to know about. In addition to being valid via Manchester, it is also valid via Leeds.
It's a fare that I regularly use for day returns to West Yorkshire as it's £19.30 for a CDR to Leeds.
Savings on journeys to Bradford and Halifax, where there are no CDRs, are even better as Nottingham to Bradford/Halifax is £30.70 OPR. For most other destinations in West Yorkshire, not on the Rochdale route, it is best to split tickets at Leeds or Wakefield as there are no CDRs to other places.
