Just wondered if anyone had a general list or knew the times that regular freights passed through Leicester and South Wigston???

Only ask as I am getting back a lot more into train bashing now and I wish to start taking more photos of freights as well, especially since Leicester can now take Intermodals!

also are there any regular moves to and from Old Dalby at the moment?

thanks,

Bruce

The intermodals are probably the most reliable runners, and there are a fair few nowadays. Just a couple of the daytime ones to/from Peterborough from memory: 4M21 should be through Leicester towards Nuneaton between around 1030 and 1100 (sometimes booked to stand at Knighton for a bit) and 4L18 and 4L07 in the opposite direction between around 1530 and 1630. Plenty of other stuff knocking around though - dare I suggest Freightmaster?

Freight working timetable is on line - Section CY:

http://www.networkrail.co.uk/browseDirectory.aspx?root=&dir=\Timetables\Working timetable (WTT)\December 2012

That lists freights for which paths exist - note that some of the trains may not actually run at present, and that other freights may run under short term plans (STP) and not appear in the WTT. However, it is useful as a general guide about what might run.

Subscribing to Freightmaster on line is a good idea if you want more accurate information about what you are likely to see.

Thanks for the plugs, chaps! :)

Freight in the Leicester area (and the East Midlands in general)
can be very unpredictable/unreliable as it is dominated by stone/
ballast workings from the quarries at Mountsorrel, Bardon Hill and
Stud Farm, all of which only run 'as required', often on different
day from one week to the next. Add coal workings from Daw Mill
to Ratcliffe into the mix and it means that there are very few
daily runners in that part of the world, I'm afraid...

And despite the recent commissioning of the new chord at Nuneaton,
only a handful of intermodal services currently run via Leicester,
a situation which is unlikely to change until the corresponding
chord at Ipswich is opened in a couple of years.

Regarding the 20-hauled LUL stock moves to and from Old Dalby,
there are two workings which pass Derby:

- 7X23 09:33 Derby Litchuch to Old Dalby

- 7X09 11:42 Old Dalby to Amersham

Both of which pass Leicester station around 13:10,
but again, running days vary from week to week
(this week sees 7X09 running on Monday and 7X23
on Friday)

Thanks Chaps!

Will sign up for that!

Also I live a few streets away from the knighton Bridge/Viaduct, I often hear the trains at night if the window is open a notch
