Yes, through tickets that have London as a permitted route (as defined in the Routeing Guide) include a 'cross London transfer' on London Underground at no additional cost. These tickets usually (nearly always) display the cross-London "maltese cross" symbol, this indicates that the tickets will work the ticket gates on LU. I advise you to take the Victoria Line, then the Bakerloo, as the interchange at Oxford Circus is cross-platform. There is a trick to getting on the Victoria line easier at St Pancras but I am unsure what it is (some of the signs direct you a very long way round).

I agree with this. There is a shortcut to Victoria Line platforms from Sub-Surface Lines platforms. You would then be at the front end of Victoria Line iirc but I think it is best avoided for an inexperienced traveller. I normally get out of St Pancras, down the escalators and along the hall past Eurostar section, turn left down the stairs into the underground ticketing hall, all the way down and access Victoria Lines from there. It is a well sign-posted route. If you go via SET area at the back of the station then you would indeed be going a long way. Usually it is best not following the signs when getting out of the underground as the signs direct you a long way around.

Just a quick reply following my trip today.
There was a death on the railway track near to Loughborough and East Midlands Trains cancelled trains to London from Leicester around 10am.
I caught a Cross Country Trains service to Nuneaton and then a London Midland train to Rugby before catching a Virgin Trains Pendo to Euston.
Victoria line to Oxford Circus and same level platform change for Bakerloo line to Waterloo, all very speedy and thanks very much for the help.
1309 South West Trains to Farnborough, not bad for £17.80 with Railcard including free underground transfer.
Departed Leicester at 1016 and arrived Farnborough Main at 1344, very good with the diversion.
I drove back in my new (10 years old) Lexus LS430 in 2 hours, but I still prefer travelling by train.

So that's what was.

It seems that I was lucky yesterday as I was on the 0857 ex-Leicester. We were 10 down all the way and were told that it was due to trespassers at East Midlands Parkway.
