Travelling on a Cross-Country service from Peterborough to Birmingham New Street today, I have two queries:

(1) What is the identity of the class 27 loco painted in undercoat sitting alongside Leicester depot?

and

(2) Does anyone know anything about the rather forlorn - looking fireless steam loco sitting in the middle of a field on the North side of the line a short distance to the West of South Wigston station?

Many thanks in advance!

Is that possibly the 1929 era Bagnall fireless loco at Glen Parva? Think it was moved there, into a farmer's field, maybe some 15 years ago, as part of a local station re-opening campaign.

There is a (rather depressing) photo of Bagnall 2370/1929 on the Wikipedia page ‘ Bagnall fireless locomotives (preserved) ’.

27059 is the one at Leicester LIP...
Thanks everyone. Is 27 059 normally based on the Great Central Railway?

I believe the class 27 on the GCR is numbered D5401 and it has recently been refurbished and repainted.

27 at LR is 27059 D5410. Was owned by a Council and previously based at the SVR. Had bodywork repairs at Cranmore before arriving at LR.
