Am I correct in thinking that the only station within the area bounded by Gatwick Airport, Brighton and Eastbourne that now has left-luggage facilities is Gatwick Airport itself ? Years ago, I'm sure the other two had this useful option, it I assume this has now given way to retail space...

It's a bugbear of mine, ever since I was forced to lug a suitcase around Bristol some years ago while suffering from a bad back. It should be a no-brainer to offer these facilities, especially when people (like me) might be changing trains and happy to spend an hour or two visiting the city. Even if it's not cost-effective in itself, it would encourage tourists.

I recall having the same problem at a major tourist destination (probably Bath) back in the 70s.

The large scale removel of left luggage facilities, was a side effect of "The Troubles" and I don't think that in the present security situation there will be much desire to restore them.

There are still loads of left luggage lockers in Germany, however the odd underground left luggage facility at Cologne HBF and the manual one at Berlin HBF leave something to be desired
