Sly boyfriend booked tickets for us to. See a show in the west end on the 20th February, returning 21st.

Had a quick look for train tickets and could only manage to find £66ish tickets for one way.

Are there any tickets out there that would ideally be less? We aren't fussed for time; more the pricing. A train at 5:05 and 5:30 gave us cheaper tickets, but we want to be in London between 09:30 and 10:30 ideally.

I have looked at flights from Leeds Bradford which are far cheaper, but then we still need to get into London afterwards.

Neither of us have railcards or any discounting things.

Thank you in advance!!

From Leeds, the best I can find is £44.70 outward and £44.70 back for both of you.

The price quoted for the outward journey is available on a number of suitable departures Friday morning if you search for trains "Via Outwood" on the East Coast website. This will put you on a Northern stopper to Wakefield Westgate and then an East Coast service from there onwards. The wait at Wakefield is around 20-25 minutes.

The return is available if you search without "Via" points, on the 2100 Saturday night and changing at York. You get back to Leeds at 2332. This gives you a total of £89.40 for the return journey.

From York the only suitable ones I can see are the 0631 out (arriving King's Cross at 0843) Friday morning, and the 2100 back Saturday night, both at £41.20 for the two of you, so a total of £82.40. If you want to book the 0631 in particular, you need to be quick as only four tickets currently remain at that price level.

For either of the above options, if you don't already have one, you will benefit from a Two Together Railcard, which is currently selling online for £27 by using the code LEAFLET3.

Similarly priced tickets are available for earlier returns on the Saturday, but I assumed that you wanted to return after dinner to give you a full day in London.

Would advances to Manchester or Sheffield and then advances on Virgin/EMT be an option at all?

Do the flights if they are far cheaper. Picc line from LHR T5 (where I believe LBA flights arrive/ departs from/to now) is only a few quid to London with oyster or even only about a tenner paper.
Or Heathrow connect changing at Central, is cheap too.

I've gotta say £44.70 for 2 of you (from wakefield) at peak time on the Friday is very reasonable unless I'm missing something like a bank holiday?

Just looked at BA.com and flights appear to be £44 each, each way so for 2 returns they start at £176

The 14:33 from Bradford (with Grand Central) is £26.40 for both of you, getting in at 18:10 - though this might be a tight for your show? The 10:21 from Bradford is £44.00 for both.

There are several returns at £44.00 to Bradford on the 21st.

Watford Junction is having one of its closures that weekend (20/21 Feb).
The WCML is OK on the Friday, but closed on Sat/Sun.
That won't help the availability on other routes either.
