Hi all,

I have been trying to understand a service which was not on any real time websites - At 1815 on a date in August, a 158 was seen heading west out of Leeds on line 'F' where the junction indicator showed 'DM'.

I have assumed that this was an ECS to Holbeck L.S., does this line up with the route indicator?

Thanks,

Almost definitely, DM stands for Down Methley, which means that the train, after line F, would proceed bidirectionally onto the Down Methley Line, where it would change ends to go back into Holbeck

Much more likely to go into the Holbeck Arrivals Line to change ends than change ends on the Down Methley these days.

I was just literally writing the same thing. DM is Down Midland you can also go to Holbeck via the UM (Up Midland!)

To add to everyone else and try help the OP, whilst it’s most likely it was, the unit may not have been going to holbeck, as you can still get put back onto the up after receiving DM at the gantry.

Thanks all, I’m not entirely sure where the 158 ended up, I do know that it only got a single yellow (no feathers) and it came back about 45 minutes later so it definitely didn’t go anywhere important. It was operating diagram NL477 which makes no mention of this.

Was it definitely the same unit that came back? Could have been a set swap at Holbeck?

158871 and 12th August.
Went out on Line 'F' at 18:16
Returned on Line 'F' at 19:03
A contact I have informs me it was on NL447 which makes sense since it went out later on 2F27 with 150273.

Not quite.

It went from Neville Hill to Holbeck on an ad-hoc move (due to pathing reasons) then joined 150273 in Leeds to work the remainder of NL477.

I see, did it run with headcodes and is Holbeck H.S. the right destination? (Just for my records)
Thanks,

As far as I'm aware it actually went onto the depot rather than wait in the headshunt.

So it was Neville Hill > Holbeck Depot > Leeds as 5L52, I assume this is so it could access the west facing bay?

Yes, as far as I'm aware it was the easiest way to get it there with pathing constraints and trying not to block up the west end of the station shunting.
