Just checking the times for a late night journey from Leeds to Manchester on Saturday (7th.) I noticed on TPE's site, they say the last stopping service, 2224 from Hull, 2325 ex-Leeds will not call at Slaithwaite, Marsden, Greenfield or Mossley. Replacement buses will be in operation from Huddersfield.

However, there are no diversions planned, the train maintains it's booked arrival time in Manchester, 0042.
So if it's passing through those stations, why can't it stop there? Is it anything to do with holding up the following fast service?

Could well be to clear through the route in time for a possession.

It doesn’t; it’s retimed to arrive at 01:00 and reverses at Huddersfield and diverted via the Calder Valley, so doesn’t serve Huddersfield-Stalybridge-Man Picc.

But TPE's site isn't showing this, it's still giving arrival time in Manchester as 0042.

It's not that one I'm intending to use though, it's the 2335 from LDS which is still showing arrival time in MAN as 0025.

The open data sites show a VAR schedule with it still running via Stalybridge on Saturday 7th

Well I was on the 2335 Leeds - Man. last night, both it and the stopper at 2325 went as booked via Stalybridge.

I've heard it suggested that there may be an issue with 2x 185s stopping at Slaithwaite, Marsden, etc. Does anyone know if that could be the reason why buses were operated for those stops?

There a couple Man-Hull and Leeds-Man stoppers that are booked double class 185 in the peaks. So no issue I don’t think. Not entire formation platformed though

(1) The method of work for a 6 car 185 between Leeds and Man Picc that calls at any of the local stations with short platforms requires 2x Conductors to be present. (The 2x Conductors must be able to communicate via cab to cab comms with each other and the Driver. If the cab to cab comms are faulty see (2).)

(2) If only 1x Conductor is present, the rear unit must be empty and UDB active (Unit Door Blocking) - locked out of passenger use. If the UDB is faulty then other arrangements must be made.

Not all 6x car workings are booked a second Conductor - especially late at night.

I think that explains it.

On Mondays to Fridays, the Middlesbrough and Hull portions are a booked attachment and are joined at Leeds.

On Saturdays, the Middlesbrough portion terminates at Leeds. The Hull portion arrives 6 mins. later and attaches to the rear of the empty unit, it's the Hull portion which is booked to Manchester.

The train proceeds with the front unit locked out of use and, as you say, it is consequently not permitted to stop at those stations.
Something else they must have overlooked when the new timetable was drawn up!

It is the plan that once ASDO (Automatic Selective Door Operation) is fully fitted to the Class 185 fleet the use of 2 Conductors will cease and trains that call at Platforms of 4 C185 Vehicles in length will be served at all times.

Of course some of the platforms across the route only accomodate 3 C185 Vehicles so this will not be used at these locations, and the UDB (Unit Door Blocking) function will continue to be used.

The UDB function blocks one (or more) entire Unit(s) from door release. It can not be used with Passengers in that part of the train, therefore Passengers must be moved to the accessible vehicles.

I have been on a double 185 that has called at Chester-le-Street with what I presume was UDB in operation, as we (rear set) was told no doors would open at said station. Some people were in that portion for the call at said station...

Almost certainly manually locked out.

Chester-le-Street has local instructions to have the rear 3 sets of passenger doors manually locked out of passenger use.
