Delays getting into Leeds right now, apparently due to swans on the line!

It's not the first time that has happened. When I was driving it was a fairly regular occurrence between Thackley Tunnel and Armley Junction.

Anyone know when the Greggs is due to open? I went to Leon the other evening to treat myself to a Hot Box, but couldn't find them on the menu. Dragged the one person working over to help me find it, then he said "oh, yeah, we don't have any rice". Wouldn't get that with Greggs...

In terms of eateries near the station, The Scarborough Taps does a cracking breakfast and has a nice range of beers.

Right next door to the Taps is MeatStack which does a good burger in an informal environment, that probably isn’t too much more expensive than a similar meal from McDonalds.

It depends when they open though.

I often want something before work, which is before 9 at the latest, sometimes earlier.

For me, breakfast means breakfast.

I tend to have theirs quite regularly, so it would be nice to have another option - plus their cooking equipment has suffered some reliability issues recently !

It would be nice to have the option of tinned tomatoes occasionally as well !

The window display says 27th December. I was in a rush walking past but it looked fully kitted out.

My office has a proper canteen again with a full English under £3 so I'm not quite as excited as some.

Completely forgot about this thread - was wondering where I could share the photo I took last week showing the opening date.

I wonder if this is similar to when the Southern Entrance opened, almost 10 years ago. The Station Manager didn't want it opening when it was actually ready, as that would have been in the Christmas rush - too many confused (and drunk) passengers around. Greggs would be *very* popular pre-Christmas, I reckon!

Coming back to Greggs, let's hope they've designed it so that the sandwiches and hot food aren't self-service, or there'll be nothing to choose from ever!

I'm not sure whether this is the right thread as it seems to be about delays, fast food and the poultry service provided, but the access within the station is horrendous, especially when the front escalators are shut/being replaced.

One lift per platform that takes what feels like an age once you're in it and seems to take five minutes to get to you in the first place (assuming that you can get in given the demand) and then parks you 200 metres from the 'C' and 'D' sections of the platform simply isn't fit for such a busy station. The eastern end of the station feels like someone forgot it.

That said are any other major provincial stations any better? Leeds just happens to be my local one, and the flow of people struggling with luggage on the stairs and upper concourse makes it a pretty unpleasant and sometimes dangerous place.

Yeah, I realise that there are certain physical problems that are hard (and no doubt expensive) to overcome. From memory there used to be an underpass from 8 all the way to 16/17, but I can't remember how people got up to the platform level.

I'm sure it's all been considered, but from discussing with various people, both residents and non there seesm to be a real question mark about the new entrance. Now I 'm sure there are very good reasons for it but I'm not quite sure as yet what we're going to get for the money. As ever in Leeds centre (Aire Park excepted because it IS an exception!) concrete rules the day. People are wondering whether the money shouldn't have been spent simply making it easier for people/families with a couple of bags and suitcases to actually get from the front to the platform.

What really annoys me is having to stand on platform 17 with very little shelter from the wind and rain with nowhere to sit down. The train is always in the platform at least 20 minutes before departure but is kept locked often until 5 minutes, or sometimes even less, before departure time. With such an inadequate place to wait surely Northern could organise things better so that passengers could board the train much sooner and be able to sit down where it is warm and dry.

I feel your pain on that one. It's another area of the station where you feel totally neglected.

It can be extremely cold waiting on the windswept platform 17 for the last Nottingham of the evening 2104 - it’s always well loaded, there really should be a 2204 as well!

Quite often the guard and driver are on board the train but won’t open the doors until at least 2100!
