Does anybody know what caused the damage to the overhead wires today between Leeds-Skipton and why the complete line had to be closed? It does look like a train was stranded at Keighley and couldn't go no further according to track diagrams.

It does sound serious as apparently the fire brigade were involved.

A tree brought the overheads completely down on the Up line. This resulted in an Emergency switch off for the power to the overheads north of Bingley neutral section affecting all lines between Bingley and Skipton.

Large tree came down due to weather, caught fire when came in to contact with OHL, and also brought down the catenary wire.
The northern unit was stranded without power and had to do a train to train evacuation I believe.

Ongoing major disruption due to the unit still being stranded, and both units sent to rescue having developed electrical faults.

It's a bit frustrating that there is no attempt to run trains between Bradford and Leeds via Shipley.

I'm currently at New Pudsey on my way to Leeds, going to be about an hour late.

Unfortunately all the crews for such services are stuck at Skipton!

It's a bit frustrating that there is no attempt to run trains between Bradford and Leeds via Shipley.

Fair criticism - northern do generally struggle with service recovery. Many of the diagrams on the triangle are interworked, so it's often the case that, rather than thinking outside the box, the whole lot is stopped during short term disruption.

That's not to say there may not be a more technical reason today, but there's certainly previous examples.
