Leeds-Skipton electrification

I do not believe so, the first electrification to reach Skipton was the 25kV AC OHLE in the early 90s.

No, worked by steam ,diesel and finaly 25kvac.The class 110 dmu ran services from steam to the elctric era they were good units but had a tendency to catch fire in later years due to bad maintainence ,class 108 put in an appearreance as did 110,s.The first electrics were old units(304)from the london area due to arguments about new units.Finaly new units from CAF in Spain arrived as three cars but are now four car.The 304,s had a problem stopping and had to be run as eight cars to help stop in stations etc.If you want to see the line in detail there is a dvd available from Tele Rail this also shows the line to Carnforth ,which is still very much a Midland Rly area with bridges and signal boxes still in situ.This area is worth a visit as you can seee see stations ,signal boxes still as the Midland intended.

To my knowledge the 308's were brought in because WYPTE couldn't secure funding for a new fleet of 321's to work the services, thus why 308's were brought in instead, having recently been displaced from their services on the GEML by 321's.

They wanted 14 three car 323s actually, but have now got the 16 four car 333s.

Having lived in Cononley within sight of the line, and then in Shipley, through the 308 era, I don't ever recall seeing units coupled - and six cars would have been rather too long for the platforms at several stations.
But I'm open to correction!

Mid Eighties saw 142 and 144 (Pacers) on local services. 1994 - 96 saw electrification of the Aire and Wharfe Valley routes. 308's were sourced because 323's could not be procured. 2000-2 saw the purchase and delivery of 333's.

So, where have third rail units come from. Well, there are a number of pictures of the old Bradford Forster Square with EMU's parked across most of the station. The station was much larger then
