Anyone know what’s happened at Leeds that’s taken nearly everything out in Leeds and everywhere around?

Leeds Station has been closed and all trains cancelled causing travel chaos, following a “signalling system” fault.

A ‘do not travel’ warning has now been issued for the city’s main train hub and hundreds of passengers across several services have been impacted as a result of the closure.

“A fault with the signalling system in the Leeds area means all lines are closed,” the statement said.

“ No trains are able to run to / from / through Leeds and will be cancelled, delayed by up to 120 minutes, revised or diverted.

“Leeds station is currently closed.

“Major disruption is expected until the end of the day.”

TPE on X are now stating that the station is closed.

Leeds station will be closed from now until further notice due to a fault with the signalling system.

NRES refer to a signalling fault. Something this large would suggest a complete loss of signalling in a panel(s)

A fault with the signalling system in the Leeds area means all lines are blocked. Trains running through this station may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes, revised or diverted.

Trains may be diverted via Doncaster.

Trains will not call at Wakefield Westgate and Leeds.

Road transport has been requested to operate between Doncaster and Leeds / Leeds and York and depending on availability, extended to Wakefield Westgate.

It’s a mess. It’s not just Leeds station. Trains are stopped as far out as Church Fenton (York bound) and around Micklefield (both directions)

It does? LNER/TPE and Northern all staying there can use each others services.
And it is not an 'alleged' new policy, it IS policy.

At that time it would be too late to get home via Carlisle. Are they on the hook for a hotel if I'm stranded?

Of course, AIUI Conditions of Carriage clause 28 requires all operators party to the conditions - including the listed Open Access operators - to assist passengers during disruption (where reasonable), so this "acceptance" lark's formality has no real force anyway (unless there really is no room at all, i.e. unreasonable!).

And AIUI yes, operators are indeed on the hook for taxis and/or hotels if they can't get you to your destination.

Those caught up in it have my sympathy though, and I would not want to be one of the staff on the ground in these circumstances either!

I was meant to get the 1858 Manchester Vic to York then change for Newcastle. I've simply sacked it off and gone to spend the night with a friend. All being well tickets will be accepted tomorrow, but I dread to think what time I'd be home (if at all) if I tried to travel.

I was at Hebden Bridge trying to get back to Bolton, everything cancelled to Victoria so paid extra to go via Blackburn.

There's no other way to Leeds so I imagine anything running will have pax on the roof!

LNER stating tickets will be valid tomorrow, not read anything about other TOCS (yet).

Where I was at Hebden Bridge I could have caught a bus to Rochdale using my bus pass, and from there a bus or tram. Wish I'd thought of that as I'm now over a tenner out of pocket!

But at least back in Bolton in time for a pint.

TPE have announced that due to the severity of today's disruption (Leeds) TransPennine Express tickets dated today 26/07/25 can be used on TransPennine Express services, tomorrow, 27/07/25.

Possible that some of their trains from the North East across to Manchester will be re-routed avoiding Leeds, depending on how far the signal problem extends, albeit with longer journey times.

I thought there were a lot of smartly dressed people at Leeds this morning waiting for the York train.

Meanwhile, I seem to have dodged a bullet, as I was doing the Ribble Valley line (Clitheroe to Hellifield, Saturdays only service) today - original plan was out via Manchester and back via Leeds, which means I would be somewhere near Settle, haeding for Leeds, about now. But I decided to have an early start (0735 from Kings Cross) and do it the other way round, which means I'm already back home in London!

And I have now, I think, travelled on all lines in England with a regular passenger service (there is one in Wales, and several in Scotland, still to do........)

Wow, just what you need on an already hectic payday Saturday in Leeds. I’ll set off in good time for my commute into work this evening. Also, if people are stranded overnight, the hotels are already rammed this weekend, so it could be a good night for taxi drivers.

Leeds East WS controls Ulleskelf to Church Fenton & Hudds WS controls Mirfield so can’t divert away from the problem sadly
