Heading from Leeds to Chester direct on Northern 14:43 Leeds - Chester. Train Running but cancelled after MCR Victoria. Advance Single Northern Trains only. Best advice? Waiting around at Victoria for another hour meaning missed bus connections or possibly jump on TPE to Newton le Willows then ATW to Chester. Will they allow it? Maybe ask nicely at the ticket office
So confusing as they don't actually tell you your train is cancelled but the journey is - or at least curtailed.

Update - lovely TPE Guy on the platform said 'we are friendly bunch - ask the train manager - 99% of the time they will allow travel'. Train Manager 'no you can't come on with that ticket' I picked the day when the 1% guy was working......

I've been on these services when they've been canned at Manchester, and ticket acceptance has always been arranged with TPE even with Northern advances. Sorry to read that you weren't able to travel on them. Be sure to leave them a review on one of their social media feeds if you have access to any..

I'm a little confused, where did you ask the TPE guard? I think explaining the situation at Victoria would have a better chance of success than at Leeds there they might think you're expecting to use them from there when your train's still running that portion.

TPE guy on the platform at Leeds was dispatching trains (if thats the right word / spelling) on the Platform the TPE service was due to arrive on - the guy who refused boarding was the Train Manager on the actual service we intended to use.

The problem being the fact that the Service being cancelled after Manchester means an hour wait for the next service to Chester whereas taking the TPE and changing at Newton-le-willows would mean an arrival time in Chester at roughly the same time as the booked journey.
