If I may, let's go a little easier on The_Stig then that.
From his later edit, it looks to me like a genuine accident - Presumably The_Stig had added that telly to his basket to get additional info about shipping and delivery, and had cut and paste the "Add to basket" URL straight out of his browser without realising, insted of copying the "View Product" link which would've been better.
As it is, there should be no
major issue about this anyway. Adding an item to your basket in any online shop
doesn't impose any commitment to you until ye pass through the checkout section and have entered thy credit/debit card details. A shopping basket is simply a way for customers to compose a list of items that they're interested in, and items can always be removed at any time.
Indeed, I normally use online store baskets as a way of building up wishlists and for making price comparisons with other sites. 8)
As it is, I would be
extremely surprised if someone here had been shopping on Play.com, and didn't notice that the total cost of their goods was £1,100 higher than they'd expected!

As a little experiment/example: Here's another instance using an
excellent track from arguably the best band that ever existed. Remember that this basket add can be cancelled at any time using the shopping basket page, and cancellation won't have any reprocussions for either registered Play.com users, or non-users:
Incidentally, this is an interesting little trick that we've accidentally discovered here. It's interesting that whilst we're all watching out carefully for dodgy links to/on online banking sites, we still don't pay too much heed to what we click on forums!

(Note: These wouldn't directly raise any kind of charge at all, but if ye decided to buy webspace on Brinkster or a domain etc. off of 1&1 after clicking such a link, then I'd receive a bonus or reward for referring a new customer. )

No...As far as I can tell, there's no form of session identifier in those links, and if I furthered an order using that link
and went through checkout, then it would've been made to an account in my own name and not yours.
Although I'm not a Play.com user, the link would've added the TV to my shopping basket here, but as I've said above it wouldn't have caused any problems unless the user had been shopping on the site at the time.
If I hadn't noticed and cancelled it, the basket would've expired within two hours anyway and Play.com wouldn't be calling me asking about whether I'm buying that telly or not!
