This is a available via Banbury, rather than Via High Wycombe if I were to travel from Coventry, I need to "pick up" a friend from Oxford on our way to London in the week so obviously this is a more useful ticket! Do I just need to buy Coventry-Leamington and then the Leamington to Coventry ticket?

Also what are the time restrictions on such a ticket using XC to Oxford and then the fast HST into London?

Thanks

Yes, NRCoC Condition 19 allows you to use 2 or more tickets for one journey subject to satisfying the condition such as if the train calls at Leamington. I'm sure you've asked about split ticketing before though? ;)

As for the restrictions, I think I can recall mentioning brfares.com to you before? The restrictions can be found for the Off Peak Return - SVR and Super Off Peak Return - OPR by following those links.

That said, brfares is unofficial. The official source is www.nationalrail.co.uk, you can do a search, find the ticket you want, look at the conditions and it will link to a PDF document showing the specific restriction code for that ticket. It's a little bit more clicking than by using brfares.com though.

OUTWARD TRAVEL
MONDAY to FRIDAY
By any train except those
timed to arrive at London
Marylebone or London
Paddington before 1005.

...this makes the Off-Peak Return unrestricted on the Coventry - Leamington - Reading leg so long as you are on the direct CrossCountry train.

You might do better staying on the XC to Reading and changing there, potentially a quicker change than the 15 mins at Oxford, and you will definitely be able to take an HST if desired (could be a Turbo from Oxford). On the downside you don't have a guaranteed same platform departure, depending whether you arrive on p3 or p8.
