Leaking 322's

I'am a frequent traveler on Scotrail's 322s and I can't help noticing how may of them have sprung leaks around the toilets. Frequently water pours out from the roof and down the sides of the carriage just above the toilets and today on 322485 half of the carriage was flooded, again coming from the toilets. How are so many of these units leaking water? I've never heard of this being a problem on other 32x units, are there many mechanical differences between them?

It's probably coming from the pantograph well on the next coach and entering the train through the top of the corridor connection. It's not uncommon to see daylight between the coaches of a Cl321 when you look up.

On the contrary, 321/4s were shagged. Flooding was a way of life till they all mysteriously disappeared.

Does this happen on the 317s O L Leigh? I would imagine it does.

A little but not massively.

The problem is the amount of water that can collect in the rain channels on the roof and in the pantograph well, especially when you're not going very fast. When you brake or accelerate this all flows one way or the other over the coach ends and down between the vehicles or over the cab fronts and down the windscreen (and in the side droplight as well if you're foolish enough to have left it open). Sometimes it's just too much for the corridor rain screens to deal with and you do get a wet floor between coaches.

However, I've never experience flooding of the scale being alluded to by the OP on a Cl317. Mind you, as I said above, I have been PASS on quite a few "Bins" where the rain screens were either missing or not properly fitted and you could see the sky through the gaps.

It's not the toilets that are causing the flooding if the water is coming down over the roof. Even then, flooded toilets are usually caused by vandalism such as toilets or sink drains blocked with tissue.

Thanks for the replies guys. On the 322 on Monday the guard kept making announcements, presumably about the flooded carriage but as usual on these units the announcements was so quiet you could barely hear them. I thought it might have been down to a bit a dodgy maintenance, some of these units are starting to look a bit uncared for these days.

not hard at all i've done it on the railway i volunteer for and i'm only 16 and still at school but the bloody bastards don't let me drive trains tho

Not hard but time-consuming.

There is a bowser at Liv St, but there's really only time to tank the StanEx because of how long they wait between trips.

Like the FCCs when they turn round at Peterborough, they're usually only there for 10 or so minutes during the day, Cambridge might have longer available on the terminators there in the southbound bays but don't know if they can be tanked up in the southbound bay platforms, Kings Cross is a mix - sometimes there's time and sometimes, it's a case of straight in and straight out.

I remember when one 365 was supposed to work a service to Cambridge and I think onto Kings Lynn, both toilets were locked out of use as there was no water in the tanks - Still ran though!

Platforms 1 and 3 at Peterborough are able to tank up trains.
Platforms 1 to 11 at Kings Cross are again able to tank up trains.
Not sure on Cambridge.
Not sure on Kings Lynn.

No tanking facilities in the station at Cambridge but there is in the Carriage Sidings, together with CET extraction.
