Leading end

Hi

Silly question but a simple one.

How do you tell where the leading cab is on a Loco I.e cab 1 for example if I approached a class 47 etc How would I know where the front is.

I know it's a silly question, but I don't know the answer.

Look for the wheelset indicated by the ▼ symbol. That's on the No. 1 end.

I can't remember which is which right now, but one cab on a class 66 is larger than the other.

To be pedantic, the term 'leading' refers to whichever end is at the front of the train at a given time, i.e. the leading cab. Neither end is permanently designated as 'leading'.

As you rightly say afterwards, there's a No 1 End and No 2 End.

Class 68 have a large number 1 on the cab door. Class 68 number 2 end has the rad fan and cooler group...
