I know rail companies have access to the whole history of whether trains ran on time but is it possible to access this publically? For example, say I wanted to find out how punctual the 2pm train from Euston - Manchester today was how would I find out online?

This information is not publicly available. You can use the Live Departure Boards on the National Rail website but only up until its arrival at the destination station. If you call the Toc then they may be willing to share this information, but I am not sure.

Thanks Mojo! I remember filling out a survey for National Rail about 2 years ago and in it was a question asking whether I'd like to see historic train running information... I said 'yes' or rated the facility high on my list but nothing came of it (surprisingly)

There would be very few reasons why anyone would want to know the historical arrival (or departure) time of a train in normal circumstances. If you have travelled on it then you will have the information.

Why did they even ask in a survey, given it's highly unlikely they'd want to give that information out?

Because if *loads* of people ask for it, then they might reconsider. However, it's likely that only a certain minority care for it - far below any kind of threshold at which they'd be prepared to bite the bullet.

As much as I'd like to see this happen myself, I can't see it ever happening for one simple reason - Delay Repay fraud.

Unless TOC's introduce a system where delayed customers are given a little coupon, to prove that they were actually delayed.

To be quite honest I can't think of any important reason why people would want access to this information. Perhaps it would be nice to know how punctual the 05:40 Edinburgh to London service has been over the past few months, but is this really necessary? Does anyone actually care?

Southeastern publish a log of each day's train running information for the past 3 months, so it's clearly possible. I'm not aware of any other TOCs doing this - presumably it's something Southeastern are required to do as part of their franchise?

Are they doing it because no one would believe their passenger's charter figures, which just scraped past the value which would have triggered season ticket discounts? This was alleged to be because they had fudged the long distance figures by combining the HS1 services.

IIRC they have changed over to delay repay now, so charter %age values are now of academic interest.
