I thought that’s what they are called??? So where has the name Javelin come from? And what are they called?
Either way it’s a shame I’m at work as that would have been good to see.

They're simply called Class 395, Javelin is the nickname of the service they'll run from december

Have you got any references for that? All of the blurb I have seen is that the shuttle service the Class 395's run will be called Javelin, not the trains themselves. Whether the name sticks or not, after the Olympics I would assume the Javelin name gets dropped unless anyone has any supporting reference?

Yes, that's what I've always been under the opinion of

It does say in Wiki & Answers the 395's are sometimes know as 'Javelins', & the name has more or less stuck with them, it's not necessarily just limited to the service they will provide during the Olympics in 2012.

Techinally & offically they can't be called the Javelins as thats a brand of the Olympic's. But unoffically they are always going to be known as Javelins. Even myself and SE staff keep calling them Javelins.

Oh and the Javelin service runs from St Pancras to Ebblesfleet calling at Stratford during the Olympic period.

The 395 has no specific name strictly. Although the service name "javelin" is being used interchangeably with the stock, the 395s are simply part of the Hitachi "A" class family.

SouthEastern has confirmed a start date for the "preview" services.

Rail passengers on commuter routes from Kent to London will be able to try out the new Japanese-built bullet train on a special preview service.

Southeastern is to start a limited service using the 140mph "Javelin" trains later this month.

The trains will run between Ashford and Ebbsfleet in Kent and London St Pancras, starting on 29 June.

But fares on the preview trains will be £26.60 from Ashford instead of the normal £22.20.

Existing ticket holders can pay the £4.40 supplement at any station. First-class ticket holders will be able to use the high-speed service for no extra cost.

"The fares are for the preview service only, and we feel they offer value for money for passengers," said managing director Charles Horton.

The full Javelin train service, which will operate on the Channel Tunnel high-speed rail link line known as High Speed 1, will start on 13 December.

It will cut Ashford to London journey times from 80 minutes to 37 minutes, while Ebbsfleet to London will take 17 minutes.

The Javelin trains will also be used to take spectators from St Pancras to the 2012 Olympics site at Stratford in east London in seven minutes.

Which in business speak means that they're going to increase afterwards for the real introduction into traffic. Mind you, £4.40 for almost half the time - I'd pay it hands down!

In the Integrated Kent Franchise documents from 2005, it is stipulated that the maximum HS1 premia for journeys via Ashford International and Gravesend must be no higher than 20% and 30% respectively. A maximum of 35% (based on Gravesend-London) specifically applies to Ebbsfleet. :-?

Therefore the premia will either remain unchanged or (unlikely as it may be) fall - they cannot rise. Regarding the First Class fares, it's just as well because the 395s are Standard Class only anyway.

Ah - just occured to me you were referring to the absolute value and not the relative value of the premia. Obviously they'll increase whenever the 'normal' fares increase.

Maybe they're planning to update this 10p to the supplement?
