I had a very enjoyable day visiting and walking the northern part of the old Cromford & High Peak Railway between Whaley Bridge and the Bunsell Incline at the bottom of the Fernilee Reservoir. It was a glorious day of weather, which made it all the more enjoyable. I think that was our 'Summer' as it has rained every day since!
The walk included the Whaley Bridge, Shallcross and Bunsell inclines, which have been formed as a trail by the District Council(s) and are a good paths. Bunsell incline is now a road. For the rougher parts you really do need dry weather as it can be quite rough and overgrown.
I walked as far as I could before having to turn back to Whaley Bridge for my train home. It was a long day out, which included a total of eight hours by train and 5-6 hours walking but well worth it. I hope to go bck before long to complete the section between Bunsell Incline and Burbage Tunnel. Just need a descent day of weather!
