Late running virgin pendolino to Glasgow Central

Hi

I've just seen a pendolino leaving Lancaster (heading north to Glasgow central).

It was originally supposed to leave Lancaster at 21.57 but didn't depart til 00.24 and was running 144 minutes late.

I was wondering if anybody had any info on why it was running so late.

Might be to do with closing ceremony of olympics, not sure though if the timings match up.

Emergency services dealing with a trackside incident between Wigan and Warrington, line closed for just over 2 hours (about 21:30 to midnight)

I believe that nothing was going through Warrington Bank Quay yesterday evening due to a man with a child threatening to jump off a bridge in the area. The returning North Wales Coast Express which should have gone via Frodsham, Warrington BQ, Manchester was diverted to go directly from Chester to Crewe instead. Whilst we waited for a Manchester train in Crewe (between 21.30 and 22.20), it was clear that nothing was going North on the WCML at that time.

I met a friend of mine in Manchester picc who had been caught up in this.

Due to something the guard had described as 'a lineside incident at which emergency survives are attending" the Virgin train fro Euston he was on stayed at Crewe for a while, then they were taken to MAN. As i talked to him, i heard one woman nearby advise her group that 'to get to Edinburgh the train people on the phone have just told me to get as far north as we can tonight"

A TPE train to BPN trundled into 14, as close to capacity as I've ever seen one if not over. Hundreds of passengers poured out of PRE, many of whom were talking about getting intimately Scotland but not knowing how they were going to do so so late in the evening.

By the by, an ATW to Chester was cancelled whilst we were at MAN, soliciting groans and mocking laughter at the first sound of "a rail replacement bus..."
