On Tuesday Night/Wednesday morning I was the only passenger aboard the 01:15 Eastbourne - Hastings service which ironically was an 8 car working, which connected from the RRBS from the 22:45 from London Victoria. The Replacement bus got to Eastbourne a good 30 minutes before the train left, which begs the question, would it have been cheaper for southern to have put me in a taxi and cancelled the service? Surely it would cost more to run a scheduled service? It probably would’ve been quicker anyway!

It might have been, if they'd known only 1 person would be on it in advance. Late nights, even midweek, can be tricky ones to predict.

Presumably it wasn't non stop so you'd also need to check if anyone was waiting at any intermediate stations and find another taxi if they were.

Probably this was a depot move as well and likely the rail replacement bus was appended to other duties before doing the trip to take you home
