A very very slow 319 one one of its last services of the day from Manchester Piccadilly to Manchester Airport.

And in the morning, probably another one!

My last train for 2015 will be the 22:30 TPE service from Liverpool Lime Street to York which i will be travelling on from Liverpool LL to Manchester P.

I would love to see a 185 in Lime Street Low Level!

01:44 Clapham Junction to Basingstoke (alighting at Surbition), very impressed by the all night (free!) service to get 'home' from the fireworks in London...once you manage to get to a station of course!

Must say the station and train staff are all jolly too wishing passengers a happy new year

OK technically cheating being a 2016 train!

2158 Liverpool Street to Cambridge. Over 20 minutes late due to some track issue at Clapton, so only just managed to get home for midnight. 8-car 317 - with precisely one other person on the entire train by the time it got to CBG, so we each got 4 carriages to ourself :)

I haven't started bashing yet! That begins tomorrow...

Although it will only be a cat from Leam to Moor Street and back. But then I will either be in Manchester or North Wales Coast bashing on the 6th, Nottingham on the 8th and then (hopefully) London on the 9th. Then Manchester again on the 15th. I'm starting the new year in style!

According to my London friend it was free as it is part of London Overground which was free courtesy of Boris from about midnight to 4am last night to try getting 100,000+ people out of central London with minimum fuss ;)

I see... Fairly good plan there from Boris

For this afternoon, a rather wedged 9-car Pendolino from Birmingham to London, and a practically empty 6-car 159 from London to Salisbury.

Last one in 2015 was 156448 on the 17:07 Wylam - Newcastle on the 31st.

First one for 2016 will probably be whichever 172 turns up to take me to work on Monday.

170 and Dogbox combo which is unusual - Birmingham Moor Street to Spring Road.
Not that unusual; there's a daily (weekday) diagram for such a pairing on the Snow Hill lines, and they're a common sight on the Chase line, too.

First train of the year was 365507 on the 0958 Arlesey to Kings Cross. I normally encounter 321s running this particular service, so it was a nice change for it to be a 365 :P

I'm on turndown for New Year so my last journey was Bozshakul to Astana (Kazakhstan) on New Year's Eve - depart 15:10 arrive 19:10. Return journey to the mine tomorrow depart 14:50 arrive 19:10.

I'll see if we continue with the almost unheard of situation of platform boarding tomorrow (Kazakh railways don't have a problem with short platforms, you just get off at the station and walk along the cess(if it's track 1) or the 6 foot (the other 4 tracks) until you come to the crossing point. Real old fashioned stuff.

It'll also be interesting how hot they have the carriage. The traditional train heat methods are steam and electric heat, on the ex-Soviet carriages used here the train heating is related to how much coal the Babushka puts onto the stove at the end of the coach.
