I am told that the last LWR train will be leaving Workington tomorrow as 6X98 0933 Workington to Carlisle.

What's an LWR train ? Perhaps I should know the acronym, but I don't.

It stands for Long Welded Rail train.
Rail is rolled at the steel rolling mill, such as Workington once was, into long lengths that are then flash-butt welded into 702 feet (216m) long rail "strings".
These are then loaded on to a LWR train and taken to the track renewal site where the rail is unloaded onto the trackside.

If Network Rail are no longer getting their new rails from Workington, where are they getting them from instead ? I hope its within the UK.
A very sad day indeed. Its amazing the site was completely leveled in the summer of last year, yet they still had enough rail to ship out right up until october the following year.
A lot of history and stories lost here. In answer to your question, the facilities at workington where moved to the beremoth that is Scunthorpe, so addded production there. Scunthorpe will be the last remaining steelworks in the UK, how ever many years or decades it will take.
Do you know the traction? hopefully it will be a Tug.

Some rail is likely to come from the Continent I understand.
There is an update to the departure time. Now shown as 6X98 1103 Workington to Carlisle, booked through Carlisle station at 1206
60049 is the only possible contender right now, shown at Warrington, but I have no info on the traction at this time.

I heard somewhere that the rails would come from Scunthorpe, although that was before all this recession business...

There was an interesting program on the TV last night (not sure which channel) about making LWR in Austria; they didn't say where the plant was but I think that it was at Leoben.
The UK already has LWR delivered through the tunnel at times though I believe this usually goes to Eastleigh for distribution.
