Last ever train services

Couple of posts about the withdrawl of certain types/classes of loco or unit and those who travel on them until they go. What classes of locos or units would you try to travel on for the last time and why?

Mine would probably be the 142s and Tyne and Wear Metro, mainly due to the fact I have grown up with them in the NE.

Probably not include things such as the last Valenta (as HSTs are still around) or things that you can still travel on when they are preserved. Has to be last mainline passenger workings.

I'd probably do 142s as well, not because I like them but for the reassurance that they're finally going

If 458s were going to be scrapped I'd get the first 458 out of Waterloo in the morning and stay on it until the last service, arranging strategic takeaways from Herbie's in Staines to meet the train

I'd probably do 455s as well, although 455s as I remember them in 1997 (first post-privatisation journey was Fulwell - London Waterloo) disappeared long ago.

I did the last scheduled loco hauled Newcastle - Liverpool service which heralded the introduction of the 158's. There was a filthy 47 doing the honours and I took the Duff as far as Manchester. Would have done The Pool but getting back to Newcastle was a pain.

I did this train as these loco hauled Trans-Pennine trains, whether it be 40s, 44s, 45s 46s or the ubiquitous 47s, were one of my staple diets when bashing trains in the late 70's early 80's. Just had to be on the last one. The following day the 158's took over and that just didn't feel the same somehow. Having the windows open on the mkII's going through the tunnels between Yorkshire & Lancashire gave an amazing sound. Never forgotten the thrash or the smell of the exhaust
