Northern are now asking if you have previously had laser eye surgery on their application form, and if so, which?

I may be wrong but I take this to mean that having had laser eye surgery does not automatically rule you out like having colour defective vision would.

What do you guys think?

There was a large thread on this subject a while back - try a search

I was under the impression that laser eye surgery did rule you out from what I had been told by people who work for other TOC's.

As above, there was a long debate on this a while back! But briefly, it is quite frankly a VERY grey area. Some TOCs seem more bothered about it that others, and come applicants seem more honest about declaring it than others!

In the previous discussion I listed the three types of surgery Northern allow. I don't have my operating handbook on me at the minute but try a search.

Can they find out if you say no??

There is no test that they do that will show it up but as has been said, if they do find out you will be sacked.

If they were to need to see your medical records and see it they they could sack you, same as if you had an incident and they suspected your eyesight contributed. They could then send you for a more I depth eye test which may well throw abnormalities up and lead to the discovery you have had the procedure. Once again you would then be sacked.

Anyone else who applied for the recent trainie drivers position with FGW notice if the application form asked if you had laser eye surgery?

Also consider that if a driver withheld that info and then was involved in a incident causing a fatality, it could be used in evidence against him in a criminal trial for manslaughter.
