Right, I'll say again
The minumum specs I want would be...
1.6GHz processor (Mac has 2GHz)
1GB memory
100GB HDD (Mac has 120GB)
DVD reader, CD writer and reader
Wireless
2 USB ports
5hrs battery life (Mac has 6hrs)
Very portable
But the Mac covers all that and more.
I was looking at Windows laptops none stop, and couldn't find anything under £1000 (inc. VAT + Shipping) with those kind of specs.
The major downfall for almost all Windows laptops I've seen would be the battery life.

Well when it does run out of battery, just lay in bed and use it... All laptop battery's go at some point anyway....
Yeah, the battery life on that laptop is awful.
Also, I don't want a bigger screen. It has to be very portable. The smaller the better (without being stupidly small obviously)
Plus I don't want or need a DVD ReWriter. I want something that reads DVDs and burns CDs. That's all I need.

I'm not getting a laptop so that I can lie around the house and use it.
If I was, then battery life would not be so much of an issue.
I need at least 5hrs of battery life, as I will be using it for college work when I'm travelling, and my average journey is usually way over 3-4hrs.
And yes, I could sit at a table with a plug, but I never manage to get one.

If you're getting the second MacBook (2.16Ghz one), then it should have a superdrive which will read/write DVDs and CDs anyway.
Yes, but I'm getting the cheaper one, with a 120GB HDD as the super drive on the second MacBook bumps it up a little too much.
Remember, I have to make all this money my self! The cheaper, the better!
The only thing I would say is be aware of false prophets about a battery life... Macs are lovely but I know no-one who I would believe to say "I get 6 hours battery". I manage 3-4 on my tiny fujitsu, but thats because I know how to eek it out.

I can usually get at least 4 hours normal use from mine. So you could probably get more if you put it onto power save mode.

I get about 5 and a half hours battery time out of my Macbook mostly - on lowest brightness with Bluetooth off (I leave AirPort on if I need some wireless on a train or a hotspot).
If you just happen to be sitting using your laptop near a first class lounge then most stations have free wifi
Also Weatherspoons are currently doing free wifi too (get a voucher when you buy a drink), I've not tried that yet though.

Should do, I've managed to get into FC lounges just using my std priv.
You can usually pick up the signal from the platform. I can connect on my phone from a few places near the FC lounge at Newcastle. I've not really tried anywhere else.Must get free internet

But you don't want to take your digital camera out in case of being mugged, yet a teenage girl carrying a laptop is a big target...
And I'm sure college has power points as well as trains do...

Next time I meet you please show me where the power points are on the 15x series, as well as most of the actual electric units themselves.
I don't want or need more though. I can't really afford the MacBook.
And, that laptop has bad battery life. My average train journey is about 4hrs or so.
I want something that can cover that no doubt.
The laptop that you showed me has a max life of 3.5hrs. And obviously, it's not gonna give me the max everytime, especially after alot of use and the battery slowly starts to deteriorate.
I don't take the camera out because to take pictures I would have to be outside with it and my chances of being mugged would increase greatly.
Also because it's not mine. It's like the family camera. Also cause I'm too lazy to carry it.
The laptop is going to be used while travelling. So I'll only really be using it on trains and such. I won't be using it at college. And again, I can never get a seat with a power point on trains.
I don't expect them. If it's possible, then obviously I'm gonna try and get something cheaper. I don't have much money (I don't expect to, as I don't have a job) so I need to gets things as cheaply as possible.
You wouldn't turn down something free or cheap, I'm sure.
You certainly act like you do with the "I want money but don't want a job" attitude.
if you don't have much money then why look for expensive things such as a laptop without thinking of getting a job to pay for such items?

I think everyone would like money without having a job.
I'm not expecting much money at all without a job. But I would certainly like to be able to get enough (eventually) without a job.
I don't want a job, because I don't want to give up my free time. The reason I'm buying a laptop, is so that I can do my college work while travelling. So that I can get more coverage and do more stuff before the end of college and I possibly lose my priv.
Getting a job would destroy the point as I would have to surrender most of my free time for it.
