Langworthy - Leeds - Dukinfield

Hi guys.
I'm looking for some input for the cheapest way for me to do Langworthy - Leeds, for the WY Challenge on the 20th then Leeds to any of Ashton, Hyde Central, Woodley or Stockport, and from there, I'll be on the 330 to Ducky. I don't want the restrictions of an advance.

The ideas that i have ATM are
1) Wayfarer then a WYPTE ticket, catching the Met to Vicky, then the Caldervale line from there or
2) going for a Firstbus daysaver and catching whichever bus it is that goes straight through to Huddersfield, then using a WYPTE ticket from there

I'm wondering if theres any possible cheaper options than the former, and i'd prefer slightly faster than the bus.

Langworthy isn't a place I've heard of and I can't locate it. Dukinfield appears to be a suburban area near Hyde North/Flowery Field.

I also don't think that terms like "Vicky" should be used, it took me a moment to realise that "Met to Vicky" meant the Metrolink to Victoria! "The Met" usually refers to the Metropolitan Line, but obviously I realise you're talking about Manchester!

With Option 1, if you go via Rochdale then you will additionally need a ticket Littleborough - Walsden (assuming the train calls at both stations) priced at £2.80 CDR. If you go via Stalybridge then you need a ticket Greenfield - Marsden at a ludicrous £5.50 CDR, also there are no longer direct stopping trains via this route.

So, the (very slow) Calderdale line may actually be best. The 0822 from Manchester Victoria should suffice for your needs. The 0800 would require a Littleborough-Todmorden ticket at an extra cost of 60p.

Langworthy is a station on the Eccles line of the Manchester Metrolink -through ticketing is available, in addition to the System One day tickets.

I'm wondering if it would be any cheaper to start the OPs journey from Eccles mainline station?

'The Met' was used in early publicity for Metrolink, for example 'Get the Met'. This didn't really stick and they soon called themselves 'trams' which they had avoided until then.

The 330 bus is operated by Stagecoach so would not be valid on a FirstDay.

There is some debate as to the validity of the GM FirstDay in West Yorkshire and the WY FirstDay in GM. Until a few years ago a FirstDay was valid across GM, WY, SY and York. This is no longer advertised so presumably does not apply any more.

The First in Manchester site doesn't say where the boundary of their FirstDay is. It may or may not be valid on cross boundary routes such as from Rochdale - Burnley/Halifax on the 589/590 or the 184 from Manchester to Huddersfield. It may not even be valid on the 589/590 at all, even in GM, as it is operated by First West Yorkshire, although only an enthusiast would be aware of that. The 184 is a joint service between First in Manchester and First West Yorkshire.

The First West Yorkshire site makes it more clear in that it is valid on the full route of services 184, 517, 589, 590 & 592. This could mean that a viable route would be Metrolink to Piccadilly Gardens and using a WY FirstDay all the way from Manchester to Leeds. But if you bought it on a 184 operated by First in Manchester would it be accepted on First West Yorkshire buses between Huddersfield and Leeds? Not sure.
