I'm intending to do this journey on Friday and back on Saturday, with a break in Cambridge both ways. Is this allowed? I've checked the Routeing Guide and I believe via Cambridge is permitted (Cambridge is a routeing point for Elmswell, and passes the fares check rule) but can someone with NFM access confirm whether break of journey is allowed on this Off-Peak Return? I'd also like to check the restrictions, particularly the outward: is it arriving in London at or after 1000?

From what I can see , Cambridge and Stowmarket are both appropriate routing points for the origin station. Ely is not.

Slough and Hayes & Harlington both seem to be appropraite routing points for Langley.

Thank you. Sadly the "1010 for arrivals at London Paddington" makes a big difference to me - I wanted to get a train that arrives at 1003! They've clearly slipped that in since NFM03 which I have :( . Currently to avoid this I'm going to buy an extra ticket to West Drayton for £1.90 and pick up a train there that doesn't call at Langley and arrives at 1016.

Yes, this is what I thought, though I hadn't noticed Slough as appropriate (but it is). Does this mean that doubling-back via Slough would be allowed on this ticket? (This would save me £1.90 but would cost me at least 10 minutes whilst being difficult to argue if questioned so I'm not going to bother!)

Ah right, it's good that you asked that because I didn't pick up on that, due to the fact I don't know the area that well.

With regards to doubling back there is a concession as shown below.

GROUP STATIONS
Some stations are grouped together to improve interchange between trains
by offering customers access to a wider choice of train services and station
facilities. A customer may travel via any station in such a group, including
doubling back, provided that the group is on one of the permitted routes
between their origin and destination stations. This extended availability is for
interchange purposes only and does not apply where the origin or destination
stations are part of a group.

However on this occasion as Langley is in Slough Group, that double back concession wouldn't seem to apply as the place you double back has to be outside the group which the origin station/destination station are part of, therefore doubling back between Slough and Langley would only be permitted if there is an easement in the routing guide.

Having looked in the Easements section of the routing guide I can see no such easements, therefore I would say, that the only permitted routing point for Langley is Hayes & Harlington.
