Langley (Berks) to Runcorn

I'm planning to go from Langley (LNY) to Runcorn (RUN) on Friday afternoon/evening, returning at the weekend. I have a 16-25 railcard so was planning to take account of the peak-time travel available to railcard holders on off-peak tickets on Virgin, buying a simple Off-Peak Return for the journey. But putting my journey into East Coast or National Rail says I can't travel on peak-time journeys into London (the 1628 or 1658 trains from Langley being the most relevant examples). Why is this? My NFM03 doesn't have any restriction I can see in it.

If it is a problem, is there a suitable split that doesn't cost much more? Tickets from Langley to Paddington are certainly not restricted at this time, but I would have to buy two singles to split in London.

I don't know why those sites say it isn't valid at those times, but the ticket is valid on any Virgin train and is unrestricted between Langley and Paddington due to the fact that Langley is in the Network area (former NSE area). So the ticket is effectively "open" ie, valid on any train and returning within 1 month.
