That's an interesting idea. I'm sure that's a line of work which will have occurred to the RAIB as well. What I noticed was that the OHLE further away is similarly mounted, but the nearest structure is bolted on to the stone side walls. I wonder why.
From memory, the walls narrow in as you go along the cutting so it would get to the point where there wasn't sufficient clearance to bolt the masts to the walls.

With a choice of 4 through platforms as well as two north facing terminal platforms (which are rarely, if ever, used for passenger services), would it not have been sensible to have a unit do the 6 minute shuttle between Dunblane and Stirling rather than book a bus?

The north facing docks at Stirling are sidings with hand points, not fit or passed for passenger use.

plus there are (in theory) still the Glasgow - Dunblane services running.

A better use of spare units and crews would have been to strengthen the shotts and/or Glasgow to Stirling services to pick up the increase.

Also seems frankly bizarre that they were tweeting yesterday evening Edinburgh to Stirling via Perth wasn't a valid alternative route 'due to a replacement bus service being provided' especially since it later transpired as there wasn't a replacement bus, you had to get the service bus.

Perhaps it's time they were?

It still leaves 4 other through platforms and plenty of turnback options between Stirling and Falkirk Grahamston.

There are steady local flows between Dunblane, Stirling, Larbert (for FVRH) and Falkirk (for misery).

It was a perfectly acceptable alternative, as was travelling via Glasgow. An extra hour on a train is always preferable to a bus.

On the previous occasions, I've done that journey myself, there's only ever been one query from the on-train staff "You're naw supposed to dae this" - but as I pointed out, either way I'm going to get the money back for the journey through delay-repay so it makes no odds whatsoever.

That wasn't your point above, you wanted a Stirling-Dunblane shuttle for which I pointed out there was an adequate alternative.

Not disagreeing, merely pointing out Scotrail twitter was actively stating it wasn't allowed when someone else enquired.

There were still speed restrictions this morning - we were 10 minutes late owing to them.

A bit late now but the main issue here would have been a lack of staff to operate a regular service. A large number of Dunblane services are worked by Edinburgh crews who would've been stuck the wrong side of Winchburgh.
