Landslip @ Bury St Edmunds

As NRE/Greater Anglia are reporting buses replacing trains between Bury St Edmunds/Cambridge and Bury St Edmunds/Peterborough this Sunday due to "emergency construction works" I do happen to wonder how bad things are?

I was travelling between Cambridge & Bury last night, and had a noticeable speed restriction between Kennett & Bury but as it was dark, I couldn't actually set how sizeable the issue was?

Also, this is the first I've heard of the problem (to my knowledge I'm not aware of any major disruption between there over the last few days)... surely it would make sense to deal with a landslip when it occurs, rather than wait a few days?

Depends how unstable it is I guess. There's quite a bit of freight that goes that way which would involve a lengthy detour. Strikes me that waiting until Sunday when the passenger service is less frequent, the goods trains are all in sidings and resourcing the replacement bus service is easier is not such a bad idea.
