Landslip at Crewkerne

The South West Trains website now says signalling problems between Yeovil and Salisbury resulting in diversions via Westbury. You have to feel for the NR guys and the planners who seem to be facing every problem under the sun this weekend.

Ah that explains why the 11:15 Waterloo - Exeter is diverted via Westbury. At least the route through Crewkerne has re-opened

Afraid it hasn't - it's closed again. From National Rail:

A landslip near Crewkerne resulted in the closure of the railway line between Yeovil Junction and Axminster on Saturday 9 February and into this morning as well.The line reopended briefly but has since been closed again.

BBC News has been reporting that it had reopened but has now shut again due to a signalling problem

The signalling problem is a separate problem closing the line through Gillingham. The closure at Crewkerne was due to the landslip again but the line is expected to reopen at 1500, but SWT services having to divert via Westbury due to the signalling problems.

An update on my journey.

The rail replacement coach from Axminster to Yeovil Junction arrived just in time to make what should've been the 1332 from Yeovil Junction to Waterloo. This was cancelled due to the signalling problems.

A coach was quickly arranged to take us to Salisbury but as this was full 8 of us we're put in a taxi to Salisbury. I'm currently at Salisbury on the 1527 waiting for it to leave.

Apparently not all the drivers sign the diversion via Westbury.

Just hard a look at their website. I wouldn't expect to be able to claim for the landslip as that's weather related but the signalling failure is within their control.

Looks like I'll get half the cost of my return ticket back, based on a delay of more than an hour.

I was in exeter in time for the 1458 to Waterloo but no mention of any trains running (despite it leaving at 1531!) So I was told to get the bus to Bristol and I'm now on rthe rather busy 1655 to Paddington and going back to Woking via London.

areport on Sky news blamed badgers for causing the slip, the line now appears to be running with speed restrictions over the affected stretch
