Lancaster to Manchester

Hi Everyone!

I need to travel to Manchester Piccadilly from Lancaster every day for 6 days starting on Saturday 28th March.

I have a 16-25 railcard and must arrive at Piccadilly before 8am. I will return at about 4pm each day but I don’t mind waiting around to save a bit of money.

Does anyone have any money saving tips for me?

Seven day season ticket is £110.50. Margjnally cheaper than buying a series of railcard discounted return tickets. Also, much more flexible than advance tickets and valid on TPE services.

Though it might be worth looking to see if Advances are offered, particularly on the Northern services, assuming the poster can commit to specific trains. Northern's Advance fares, where sold, are often VERY cheap.

I’ve had a look at a combination of advances and it works out about the same if not a little more expensive.

I also quite like the idea of how flexible the Morecambe suggestion has the capability of being.

Or just actually go to Morecambe for fish and chips and a walk round!

Ending short restrictions on walk up fares are a bit meaningless, as there is no basis to punish anyone even by way of an excess - you can just return to the platform and continue to the destination on the ticket.

I don't disagree but would point out that getting through the barriers in the morning with an off peak ticket can be awkward because barriers/staff may not recognise them (though perfectly legal).

That's not a problem at Lancaster - no barriers and no checks entering the station

But it might be on arrival in Manchester.

It would certainly help to book these tickets against an itinerary and sticking to those trains in the "peak".

For some reason the post has vanished with the suggestion I used.

However I did purchase two off peak returns on Sat and Sun (although I did have to push my day back on Sunday as the trains started later).

I then bought one anytime return to Manchester and the rest Manchester Morecambe Returns.

No issues whatsoever with the tickets!
