Does anyone know if a Lancashire Day Ranger can be bought on board the train from the Conductor as my local station doesnt have a ticket office.

Wasnt sure if Rangers are available from the ticket Machines Conductors use?

I believe that rovers & rangers can be sold on board Northern trains when boarding at an unstaffed station. Possibly at other times too?

Very easy one to issue on Avantix. On the main screen guard needs to hit;

Northern's (partly upside-down!) leaflet tells you.

When boarding at an unstaffed station, or if the ticket office is closed, you can buy them from the conductor on the train.

But for the longer Rover tickets, they say that these cannot be bought on trains; I wonder what you are supposed to do at an unstaffed station.

The appropriate thing would be to buy a ticket up to the value of your intended purchase to cover some of the first leg of your journey, and then excess at the first appropriate moment.

From the NRCOC:

If you cannot buy an appropriate ticket for the journey you want to make because the range of tickets that is available at the station from which you intend to start your journey is restricted, you must buy a ticket or Permit to Travel before you travel that entitles you to make at least part of the journey. Then you must, as soon as is reasonably practicable, buy an appropriate ticket to complete your journey. In these circumstances, you only need to pay the fare that you would have paid if you had bought a ticket immediately before your journey.
The price you will have to pay will be reduced by the amount paid for the ticket or Permit to travel.
