Lancashire - bus travel query

Hi

I'm travelling from Derbyshire to Rossendale and Barnoldswick in the same day, can anyone point me towards the cheapest way of doing this.

I'm watching two football matches on Sat 16th October and the plan was..


0802 to 0852 - Chapel to Manchester Picc
0920 to 1007 - Manchester to Rawtenstall - X43
Walk to...

Bury v Blackpool - Football League Youth Alliance @ 11 (Rossendale Utd FC)

1311 to 1354 - Rawtenstall to Brierfield - X43
1403 to 1442 - Brierfield to Barnoldswick - 29

Barnoldswick Town v Maine Road

1725 to 1800 - Barnoldswick to Nelson - 215
1810 to 1929 - Nelson to Manchester - X43
1952 to 2038 - Manchester Picc to Chapel


Train to Man Picc is £5.40 then bus fares from there will probably add up to be astronomical! Anyone got any better routing (don't mind coming back an hour later either to save a few quid.

How does £10 for the lot sound?...A Wayfarer ticket covers the whole area by bus and if you are on the Buxton line,it covers that by train.

Gotta admit I'd never heard of that ticket and I do quite a bit of travelling. My previous option was £5.40 train, bus to boundary of East Lancs Day Ranger then one of those, it was looking at £19!

Remember its the 'Wayfarer', formerly known as the 'Peak Wayfarer',you want,not the Derbyshire Wayfarer .

I've used a few Peak Wayfarers in the past & though I should point out that they're not valid beyond Burnley! You can't use the Wayfarer to get up to Barnoldswick.

As most of your bus journeys are using the Transdev buses, (except the 215), I would get a "Day Gold" ticket which will cover most of your bus travel for £6.70. Buy it on the X43 at Manchester.

If you can catch a slighly earlier bus from Barnoldswick back to Nelson (service 22. Dep Barnoldswick 17.02 arr Nelson 17.53 or 17.18 arr 18.08), you can use just Transdev services in the area & save the extra ching for the 215service, operated by Pennine motors.

I think my plans now are to use just TransDev buses.

So that £6.70 would cover me from Manchester onwards including to Barnoldswick?

Yes, that's correct.

I've found if you ask for a "day rover", you'll get some blank looks from some of the drivers. Best ask for the ticket by it's name - "Day Gold".
