I was passing the depot today and seen some photographers photographing this rather anonymous power car. Any idea which one it is?

Freshly painted in First Group blue?
I don't think so.

With the love of stick on plastic liverys and model companies getting colours wrong, anything is possible.

Sure the "BR blue" Dapol class 73 is purple..

Very true!

I suppose a fresh coat of FGW blue with vinyls over the top is a possibility and just rip the vinyls off afterwards!

Reported elsewhere as 43141.

Thanks,
Ross

Agreed, I saw it today when it was out on test run from Laira to Newton Abbot and return with 43022, I checked Genius for the whereabouts of 43022 and it confirmed the one without numbers was 43141, it now has First Great Western on the sides but still no ID numbers.

Has it really been freshly-branded with 'First Great Western', rather than 'Great Western Railway'? Seems odd to apply the old brand now, even if the livery is not the new green.

I once read somewhere that the most common colour blindness, amongst the male of our species, is green/blue .

Yes.

I can see why they wouldn't want to rebrand this PC - Why would you want to not only stick your flashy new branding on an older livery, but equally why then would you want to make a PC in the older more dominant livery stand out? I think FGW/GWR have learnt from the days of sticking FIRST GREAT WESTERN onto the sides of the ex Sliverlink 150s et all. Keep it smart, keep it simple and stick your new branding on the ''smarter'' looking Green trains.

Added to which they likely have a stack of spare 'First' vinyls to go with their now-surplus drums of blue paint! :D

The blue will make it easy for the rebranding into the Saltire livery when they head up North!

I may have missed something here, but why was it re-painted blue rather than green?

Large stock of blue paint at Kilmarnock was the story reported on these forums, sufficient to complete the refurbishment (which the contract with the ROSCO likely stipulates.) Switching to green would add cost and waste, and the branding won't be consistent until after the HSTs depart anyway, so no real point changing.
Although it's the wrong shade of blue, maybe it's near enough that the Saltire vinyls can go over the top without another repaint, so perhaps the blue was requested?

Thanks for that.

After doing some digging round, the plan was always to paint the one HST green, all the others will be repainted in the usual First blue livery.

The Scotrail conspiracy may have a little truth in it. Rumour has it Scotrail are receiving a set early for testing purposes/ driver training. I don't think there is a million miles difference between the base blue for the saltire livery and FGW blue.
