A brazen team of thieves wearing high visibility jackets stole seating worth hundreds of pounds from the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway.

Bosses at the heritage line say they have security camera footage showing three men in a van arriving at Ingrow West Station at 7.20pm last Thursday.

They say the men removed six benches from the yard - including four from the station itself.

Michael Tarran, station safety officer and clerk of works, said five of the wood and metal benches were worth about £500 each.

A man has been arrested in connection with an incident in which benches were stolen from the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway.

Six benches were taken from Ingrow West Station on the evening of April 3.

Yesterday afternoon, police attended an address in Laisterdyke, Bradford, where they arrested a 51-year-old man on suspicion of theft.

Officers also recovered a quantity of benches, and a Mercedes van was seized.

Police say the arrested man has been released on bail and inquiries are ongoing.

Hurrah. Usually the items are long gone and never found.

The best solution is to crack down on the buyers at scrap yards. If there is no one to buy then then stealing becomes a lot less profitable.

Excellent news, well done to the Police (not often I say that!), and the fact the benches have been recovered is the icing on the cake.

May I recommend the purchase of some decent quality CCTV cameras!

The problem regarding theft of "scrap" is not limited to the railways. Power tools and other garden equipment is at risk of being stolen.

Recently the police were pulling over all light commercial vehicles and checking their contents in my area

In an attempt to make it more difficult to sell stolen items for scrap or at least have some chance of tracing those who steal something to sell for scrap, licenced yards will no longer pay cash
