As well as featuring at the upcoming Winter Steam Gala, the L&Y Class 25 Ironclad is also running over Easter for a week, including for one day being assisted by the Class 14 presumably to help with a heavily loaded train on the Saturday.

About which bit?

There are only 3 steam engines available for traffic : 52044, 41241 and 78022. So one of those three has to run.

Generally speaking the week before Easter is quieter than the week after Easter, so as 52044 is a 4 coach engine, but the other two are 5, it is better to run the 4 coach engine when you can, to save the 5 coach engines for when you need them.

Saturdays however are too busy for 4 coaches, so at least 5 are needed. But you don't want to light another engine just for one day - it is better to keep the same engine in steam for a number of days and keep it warm. Thus you end up with 52044 doing a block of days before Easter and 78022 doing a block of days after 52044 when it is generally busier.

For the one day during 52044's block when 4 coaches would not be sufficient assisting with a diesel is the most practical solution.

Not quite I’m afraid. 90733 technically replaces 5820 which was withdrawn early (and 90733 is slightly late coming back in)

Surely 75078 replaced 5820 when it returned in 2022

The idea is now to have 2x Class 4+ locos available so there are enough heavier locos to pull the heavier trains (6coaches) that are often required.

The vintage rake? No mark 1s in that. The Mark 1 rake does have a very bright red suburban which apparently is correct.

The VCT rake is three Lancashire & Yorkshire coaches, a Southern matchbox coach, and two Metropolitan 'Dreadnoughts', one in varnished wood and the other painted in a LT livery.

The Mark 1 rake does have a very bright red suburban which apparently is correct.

It belongs to the "Blood and Custard" era but I suspect wouldn't have stayed in pristine condition in those days (it's kept under cover and operates in a much less polluted environment!).

Thursday and Sunday are the quieter days - so having the L&Y stock out then makes sense, may attract the odd punter (I might pop over on Sunday...). The VCT stock is on the Ingrow shuttles today and tomorrow.

Vintage carriages certainly a big attraction for me.

Agreed, I note from the back of the gala brochure that there are Vintage train weekends in June (6th/7th, 13th/14th). A quick check on the website reveals these are normal fares day rather than gala fares.
