Just been thinking, what open access plans have been unsuccessfully proposed?

Go-Op (Yeovil - Birmingham via Oxford (?))
Far from dead in the water from what my sources tell me, worth keeping an eye on.
Privatisation - introducing more competition.
Not.
Competition:
1) For each passenger franchise.
2) Between freight operators.
3) For signalling projects.
4) For infrastructure maintenance - and there was a lot more of that in the days of Railtrack.
5) For new infrastructure.
6) For new rolling stock.
7) For rolling stock refurbishment.

Who wanted to buy shares? That was going to reap rewards, I don't think![]()

Didn't somebody plan Blackpool-Euston?
And yet missing from that is arguably the most important one - the one everyone thought they were getting...
8) For Passengers
IIRC Grand Central's first proposal was for a Transpennine service from Newcastle...
Personally I'd like to see GC Do some of these would be interestingThere was an option for an off peak Canterbury to Cannon St service .....not exactly "commercial" in my view.
A geezer (who turned out on investigation to be living in a MK1 at Southall) - appeared at the National TT Conference one year with proposals for a Dover . Exeter - Glasgow via Skipton (37 hauled) car carrier service. It appeared one of his family ran a bakery at Skipton so fresh morning rolls could be supplied "in house" so to speak. Funnily enough it never came to much.
I always quite liked the idea of mine - for a Carmarthen to Kensington Olympia service...purely "an idea" of course.

Can I propose an Open Rail Operator licence to allow me to operate a train from where I currently am to where I want to be on an ad hoc basis?
