Kirkcaldy to Dundee/Perth

Hi. Is Kirkcaldy within a suitable distance to Dundee or Perth when applying for a trainee driver role? I’m not sure if I would be ruled out automatically due to distance.

Also, am I right in saying that if successful there is a 9 month or so training period that takes places in Glasgow? Which would mean travelling to there everyday? Any info appreciated, thanks.

Not sure specifically about Scotrail but TOCs will have a maximum time / distance limit from your 'home' depot when recruiting trainees. Usually 45 minutes or one hour maximum commute which would put Kirkcaldy at just about within the catchment area of both Perth and Dundee, depending on time of day and traffic.

Yes, no issue staying in Kirkcaldy and applying for any of these 2 depots. Further to this Levenmouth to have a depot from early 2025.

The initial training school is for around 3 months in Glasgow. You are provided with a train pass to get you there and back on a daily basis. You then do a traction course for around 3 weeks, leaning about the trains you will drive.

It is then that you go to a depot and are provided with a driving instructor. You must a achieve minimum number of hours on all tractions, routes and driving conditions.

From starting at the school to being passed out as a competent driver can take around 18 months.
