Hi all
I have a question about Kingswinford Junction located on the OWW South Staffs Line in Brierley Hill; I know the track layout fairly well with the sidings into the Moor Street Steel Yard and more Importantly the access to the Wombourne Branch however there is something that I am curious about:
On historical photos of the junction from when the Wombourne (Pensnett) Branch was active there are 2 divergences from the access line to the branch from the main line towards Brierley Hill that both curve off to the left towards Bromley directly after the signal box, I always thought that the first turning was for the actual branch line and the second turning was a siding, am I correct in that or do both lines meet up to become the twin-tracked alignment of the Wombourne Branch? I know that further down it is singled.
I can't find any photos that show the layout and the maps I've seen don't really say much!
Any info would be greatly appreciated as I've wondered this for many years.
